Good morning!! You know they say that you should only ever compare yourself to yourself… which I think is a great start, but I also think that sometimes you need to not do even that.
If you used to be a certain way, or you used to be really good at something, and you look back and want to get to that place again, it can be really tough to compare yourself to that person… even though it’s you.
I’ll give you an example… picking up my clarinet again has been both amazing and humbling. Yes, I used to be really good (not patting myself on the back, I’m just being really), but I’m not as practiced, skilled, or as good as I once was.
But if I were to compare myself to myself THEN, it could easily stop me from moving forward and continuing to play. It doesn’t mean that I’ll never get back to that place, it just means I need to honor and appreciate my journey where it is right now.
I think it’s really important to start now where you are with what you have and WHO you are today… and be okay with it. You may be starting over, you may not be as skilled as you once were, but that’s okay!
