GAME DAY!

Okay, people, let’s talk Game Day! For once, I’m not talking about the Bears playing the Packers… Nope, we’re talking Insanity The  Asylum Game Day workout! This is what all the other workouts have been leading up to. All the practice, hard work and sweat from the rest of the week have brought us to today… Game Day!

In an hours time, we ran a mile, competed in the long jump, swam, surfed, rock climbed, speed skated, played soccer, football, tennis, baseball and basketball. IT WAS AWESOME!

It started off with the mile and I was almost sure I was toast. It was about 6 and a half minutes of running with knees up, going up hills of varying steepness and sprinting to the finish. Now it has been a LONG time since I’ve run a mile… I mean I’m talking high school I think when they MADE us run the mile. I’m just not a runner. BUUUUUUT I made it through and was ready for more! That was probably the longest of all the sports that we did.

The other sport drills were fairly short- a minute or so for each side, etc. That made this workout actually do-able. If they were much longer… well, we just won’t think about that!

Let’s get down to some of the difficult sports… Rock climbing for one. OH MY GOODNESS! The first part was jacks in the plank position  in the agility ladder alternating legs and arms. After that you either took to the pull-up bar or the floor. The pull-up bar was crazy alternating hand positions. If you chose the floor it was lat push-ups. Wooo doggy, my arms were spent after that rock climbing.

Another tough one was swimming. Now, I’ve been doing the Back to Core workouts where the back is really strengthened and trained for just such a drill. This is where I do not excel. My back has been through a lot and while I’ve worked really hard over the years to  strengthen my back, this is more intense than I’m used to. It’s really good for me, it’s just something I’m going to have to work extra hard on. So the breaststroke was a tough one for me, though I can tell my back is getting stronger every time I’m doing exercises like these so that makes me really happy!

So those were the two toughest for me. The rest were intense, but I actually thought they were super fun! I loved playing all the sports! I sweat SO much, which may or may not be TMI for you! I drank almost 32 oz of water during the workout which is crazy, but it was intense. I loved it and burned a ton of calories. I know next time I do it will be even better AND we’re adding in Overtime!
